David Melgar is a designer and creative director known for building bold, character-driven worlds that live at the intersection of fashion, pop culture, and nostalgia. With over a decade of experience, his work blends playful imagination with refined execution, creating visuals that feel expressive, emotionally resonant, and culturally fluent. Known for developing distinct characters and expanding them into fully realized universes, David creates work that connects deeply with audiences while remaining highly adaptable for commercial platforms.
His career includes global collaborations and design programs for brands and studios such as Disney, Netflix, Universal Studios, DreamWorks Animation, The Coca-Cola Company, Casio, Playboy, and Fox Broadcasting Company. From apparel and graphics to full-scale style guides and brand systems, he specializes in translating both iconic properties and original ideas into compelling, consumer-facing design that performs in market.
Before launching his own studio and namesake brand, David served as Creative Director and Head Designer at Joyrich, where he helped shape the label’s global identity through international campaigns, runway presentations, and high-profile collaborations. His work there and beyond reflects a consistent focus on storytelling, world-building, and creating visual languages that extend across categories and audiences.
Through his namesake brand, David Melgar, he has developed his own original IP universe, Cuddle Punxx™, featuring Pixx the Bear. Built with a collectible mindset and a fashion-forward approach, the project showcases his ability to originate characters and scale them into cohesive worlds designed for apparel, products, and future licensing opportunities.
Today, David partners with brands, studios, and creative teams to develop culturally relevant design systems, original IP, and product-driven storytelling.
